Devotional

Nobody lights a lamp and then hides it in a closet. That would completely defeat the purpose. Light exists to push back darkness, and the moment it is covered, it stops doing what it was made to do.

When the woman in Luke 15 begins searching for her lost coin, the first thing she does is light a lamp. She cannot find what is lost without it. That simple act carries a powerful truth for every follower of Jesus.

Jesus declared, "I am the light of the world." He did not say He carries a light or points to a light. He is the source. And then He turns to His followers and says the same thing: you are the light of the world. You are not the source, but you are called to reflect the One who is.

You were not saved to blend in. You were saved to shine. That might look like a kind word to a struggling coworker, an honest conversation with a friend who is searching, or simply living with a joy that makes people curious about where it comes from.

The dark places around you are not too far gone. They just need someone willing to bring the light. You already carry it. Do not cover it up.

Bible Verse

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:14-16

Reflection Question

What is one specific dark place in your life or community where you could intentionally bring the light of Christ this week?

Quote

You are the light of the world. In the same way that you are made in the image of God, you are to reflect the image of God, you are to reflect the source of light.

Prayer

Jesus, You are the light of the world. Help me to reflect You clearly and boldly into the dark places around me. Amen.
