Eyes on the Finish Line | Monday

It is easy to start something with energy and excitement. Finishing well is a different story entirely. Paul understood this. Writing from a cold Roman dungeon, knowing his death was near, he did not write with despair. He wrote with confidence. He had fought. He had finished. He had kept the faith.

What gave Paul that kind of staying power? His eyes were fixed on something beyond his circumstances. He was not running toward a finish line for applause or recognition. He was running toward a Person. He loved the appearing of Jesus, and that love kept him moving forward when everything around Him said to quit.

That same motivation is available to you today. When life feels heavy, when the race feels long, the question worth asking is this: what are you actually running toward? If your motivation is comfort, approval, or success, those things will eventually run out. But if you are running toward Jesus, that is a pursuit that never loses its fuel.

You are not done yet. The race is still yours to run, and the same God who kept Paul faithful in a dungeon is with you right now.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing." - 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Prayer

Lord, fix my eyes on You and not on my circumstances. Help me run today with the end in mind, motivated by love for You above all else. Amen.
