Fearing the Right Person | Thursday

Devotional
We all fear something—rejection, failure, financial ruin, or what others think of us. But Jesus teaches us to reorder our fears properly. Human beings can only affect our temporary circumstances; God holds authority over our eternal destiny. This doesn't mean we should live in terror of God, but rather in reverential awe that recognizes His holiness while marveling at His grace. When we fear God properly, it actually diminishes our fear of people and circumstances. We stop being controlled by others' opinions because we're more concerned with God's approval. We stop being paralyzed by temporary setbacks because we're focused on eternal realities. Proper fear of God isn't about cowering in terror—it's about being overwhelmed by His majesty, grace, and intimate care for us. When we get this fear right, it brings courage to face every other fear in life.
Bible Verse
'And I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.' - Luke 12:1-12
Reflection Question
How might your daily decisions change if you feared God's opinion more than people's opinions?
Quote
The worst thing that they can do is maybe shank you and end your life. That is it. They can't do anything for your eternity.
Prayer
Lord, help me fear You properly—with reverence and awe—so that I might have courage to face every other fear in life.
