Found by Grace, Not by Effort | Tuesday

There is a quiet lie that many of us believe without realizing it. The lie sounds like this: God is more pleased with me when I have it together. When I read my Bible enough, serve enough, and sin less, I earn a little more of His favor.

The Pharisees in Luke 15 believed a version of that lie. They knew the Scriptures deeply, yet they missed the God those Scriptures were pointing to. Their knowledge had become a source of pride rather than a pathway to grace.

Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep not just to describe how God pursues the lost, but to expose what happens when we forget that we were lost too. The shepherd does not find the sheep because the sheep was clever enough to stay close. The sheep was found because the shepherd refused to stop looking.

Your standing before God is not built on your consistency. It is built entirely on His grace. He found you. He carried you. He brought you home. That is not a starting point you graduate from. It is the foundation you return to every single day.

When you remember that you were found by grace and not by effort, something shifts. Gratitude replaces striving. Humility replaces pride. And the love that rescued you begins to overflow toward others.

How might your daily life look different if you approached God today as someone who has been found by grace rather than someone trying to earn His approval?

Prayer

Father, forgive me for the moments I treat Your grace as a starting point rather than my constant foundation. Remind me today that I am found, held, and carried by You alone. Amen.
