From the Stands to the Field | Monday

There is a significant difference between watching a game from the stands and actually playing on the field. One costs you nothing. The other costs you everything. In Luke 14, Jesus is surrounded by massive crowds, and instead of celebrating the turnout, He stops and draws a clear line. Not everyone following along is actually a disciple.

The word disciple in the original Greek, mathetes, does not describe someone who casually shows up. It describes someone who is fully committed, all in, no reservations. Jesus was not trying to shrink the crowd for the sake of it. He was being honest about what genuine faith actually looks like.

Maybe you have been in the stands for a while. You show up, you listen, you even agree with most of it. But there is a difference between agreeing with Jesus and actually following Him. Agreement is comfortable. Allegiance is costly.

Here is the encouraging part: Jesus is not calling you to the field because He wants to make your life harder. He is calling you because life on the field, life fully surrendered to Him, is the only life worth living. He sees more in you than a spectator. He is inviting you into something real, something that actually matters.

Today is a great day to ask yourself which side of the line you are standing on.

If someone watched your daily life this week, would they see a spectator or a participant in the kingdom of God?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the invitation to be more than a bystander in Your kingdom. Give me the courage today to step off the sidelines and follow You fully. Amen.
