God Is Not Your Personal Assistant | Tuesday

Devotional
Here is an uncomfortable question. When you pray, who is really in charge?
For many of us, prayer has quietly become a wish list. We come to God with our plans already made and ask Him to bless them. We want Him to fix our circumstances, improve our finances, and make us feel good. And when He does not, we wonder if He is listening.
But this gets the relationship completely backwards. When we treat God as someone who exists to fulfill our dreams, we have made ourselves sovereign and God subservient. That is not faith. That is just a religious version of self-centeredness.
God is not your life coach or your personal assistant. He is the sovereign Creator of the universe who has been working a plan since before time began. His plan is not built around your comfort. It is built around His glory and your transformation.
This is not harsh news. It is actually freeing. You do not have to carry the pressure of making your life work out. You do not have to perform for God's favor. He is not waiting for you to earn His blessing. He is already at work, shaping you into something far better than you could design for yourself.
Let go of the version of God you invented. The real One is so much greater.
Bible Verse
declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.' - Isaiah 46:10
Reflection Question
How might your prayer life look different if you approached God as the sovereign King rather than a helper who exists to fulfill your personal goals?
Quote
We have turned the singular, sovereign, providential God into our personal assistant, our life coach, our obedient butler that exists to fulfill our dreams and fix our circumstances. That makes us sovereign and God subservient to our whims and wishes.
Prayer
Lord, I confess that I often come to You with my agenda instead of surrendering to Yours. Teach me to trust Your plan more than my own preferences. Amen.
