The Excuses We Carry | Thursday

In Luke 14, Jesus tells a parable about a great banquet. The host prepares everything. The table is set. The invitation goes out. And one by one, the guests begin to decline. A new field to inspect. Oxen to evaluate. A recent marriage. Every excuse sounds reasonable. None of them are outright lies. But together, they add up to a life that never shows up.

This is one of the enemy's most effective strategies. He does not need to wreck your life to make you ineffective for the kingdom. He just needs to keep you occupied, busy with good things, reasonable things, things that feel urgent but are not eternal.

The forgotten people in your life, the lonely neighbor, the struggling friend, the person no one else is pursuing, they are not waiting for you to have a perfect schedule. They are waiting for someone to simply show up.

Kingdom vision is not reserved for people with extra time and unlimited resources. It is available to anyone willing to say yes when the invitation comes. The table is being prepared. The question is whether you will let your excuses keep you away or whether you will walk through the door.

What is the most convincing excuse you have been using to avoid stepping into something God has been calling you toward?

The devil does not have to destroy your life to be ineffective for the kingdom. He just has to make you busy. Busy with excuses, busy with looking at the obstacles and looking at the trees.

Prayer

Lord, show me the excuses I have dressed up as wisdom. Give me the courage to say yes to Your invitation, even when it is inconvenient. Amen.
