The Step Before the Miracle | Thursday

God rarely works the way we expect. We tend to want the miracle first and then we will obey. But Scripture tells a different story. The disciples handed out the loaves and fish before the crowd was fed. The lepers were healed as they went, not before they took a step. The servants poured water into the jars before it became wine. In each case, obedience came before the miracle, not after. John 2 captures this beautifully. At the wedding in Cana, Mary's instruction to the servants was simple and direct: do whatever He says. Not do whatever makes sense. Not wait until you understand the plan. Just do whatever He says. There is likely a step of obedience that God has already been prompting you toward. A conversation you have been avoiding. A habit you have been holding onto. A relationship you need to repair. A step of generosity or surrender that feels too risky. God is not asking you to see the whole staircase. He is asking you to take the next step. The miracle is often waiting on the other side of the obedience, not before it.
