Two Kinds of Fear | Tuesday

Devotional
Not all fear is the same. That distinction matters more than most of us realize.
There is a fear that draws us closer to God. It is the kind that rises when we begin to understand just how holy God is and, at the same time, how far short we fall. When those two realities collide, something shifts inside us. We stop treating God casually. We stop keeping Him at arm's length. This kind of fear actually produces deeper trust and a more faithful walk with Christ.
Then there is the other kind of fear. The kind that keeps us stuck. It whispers questions like, what will people think, what will I lose, and what happens if I actually go all in with Jesus? This fear does not push us toward God. It holds us back from Him.
Psalm 56 gives us a picture of someone who is genuinely afraid and brings that fear honestly before God. David does not pretend the danger is not real. He names it. But he also names who God is in the middle of it.
The invitation today is simple. Bring your fear to God honestly. Name what you are actually afraid of. Because the fear that you hand to Him is the fear that loses its grip on you.
Bible Verse
"Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll, are they not in your record?" - Psalm 56:8
Reflection Question
Which kind of fear is most active in your life right now, the kind that draws you toward God or the kind that keeps you at a distance from Him?
Quote
The righteous fear of God doesn't push us away as we would think would happen. But the righteous fear for those who are in Christ actually draws us into the presence of God to walk with Him even more faithfully.
Prayer
Father, I bring my honest fears to You today. Help me to trust that You hold every one of them and that You are not overwhelmed by what overwhelms me. Amen.
