Devotional

Life has a way of revealing uncomfortable truths about ourselves. One of the most humbling realizations is recognizing our tendency to run from God. Sometimes it's dramatic rebellion - choosing paths we know lead away from Him. Other times it's subtle - living as if we're in control while keeping God at arm's length.

Running looks different for everyone. Maybe you've made choices that feel too big to come back from. Perhaps you've been living a double life, appearing faithful while harboring secret sins. Or you might simply be going through the motions, keeping God in your life but not letting Him truly lead.

The beautiful truth is that God sees our running and doesn't give up on us. Just as He pursued Jonah in his rebellion, He pursues you in yours. Your story of running doesn't disqualify you from His love - it positions you to experience His incredible grace. Today, instead of running further, consider that God is calling you to turn around and discover that His arms are wide open, ready to welcome you home.

Bible Verse

'But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.' - Jonah 1:3

Reflection Question

In what areas of your life are you subtly running from God's direction, and what would it look like to stop running and start trusting?

Quote

We all have a story of running. Every single one of us.

Prayer

Lord, I confess that I often try to live life on my own terms instead of surrendering to Your will. Help me recognize where I'm running from You and give me courage to turn back toward Your loving embrace.
