Don't Be Surprised by the Fight | Wednesday

Nobody signs up for suffering. But if you follow Jesus long enough, you will discover that hardship is not a detour from His plan. Often, it is the path itself.

Paul described the Christian life using a Greek word that gives us our English word agony. He was not sugarcoating it. Life is a long, difficult fight. And Jesus Himself said plainly that in this world, you will have trouble. He did not promise to remove the fire. He promised to be with you in it.

That changes everything. When a trial hits, the temptation is to assume something has gone wrong, that God has forgotten you or that your faith is not working. But hardship is often the very tool God uses to shape you into someone who looks more like Jesus.

You are not alone in the struggle. The same God who walked with Paul through imprisonment, beatings, and shipwrecks is walking with you through whatever you are facing right now. Do not throw in the towel. The difficulty you are in may be the very thing God is using to build something lasting in you.

Is there a current struggle in your life that you have been viewing as a sign of God's absence rather than a place where He might be at work?

Jesus said, in this world you will have trouble, and He didn't promise to deliver us out of the fire. He did promise to be with us through the fire.

Prayer

God, help me trust You in the middle of the fire and not just on the other side of it. Remind me that Your presence with me is greater than any trial around me. Amen.
