What Your Comfort Is Costing You | Wednesday

After Jonah's big moment of obedience, you might expect him to stay engaged. Instead, he walks outside the city, builds a shelter, and sits down. He removes himself from the mission entirely and finds his only happiness in a plant that keeps him cool.

It sounds almost funny until you realize how familiar it is. How many of us have done the same thing? We show up to church, we know the right words, but we have quietly settled into a comfortable distance from the actual work of God. We watch from the sidelines, popcorn in hand, while the mission moves forward without us.

Jesus said it plainly. Where your treasure is, your heart will be also. Two honest questions cut right to the truth: where do you spend your time, and where do you spend your money? Those two things do not lie. They show you exactly what you are living for.

For Jonah, comfort had become his greatest priority. And when God removed the plant, He fell apart. His comfort was so central that losing it felt like losing everything.

Grace calls us to something bigger than comfort. It calls us into a life that is fully alive, fully engaged, and fully surrendered to what God is doing in the world around us.

If someone looked at how you spend your time and money this past month, what would they conclude about what matters most to you?

Prayer

Lord, show me where I have chosen comfort over calling. Stir something in me that is bigger than my own convenience, and give me the courage to step back into what You are doing. I want to be present, not passive.
