The Danger of Pet Sins | Tuesday

Devotional
There's something deceptive about how we handle sin in our lives. We convince ourselves that certain sins are manageable - like keeping a small pet that we feed occasionally. We think we can control them, that they're not really hurting anyone, and that we can maintain our relationship with God while keeping these 'harmless' compromises.
But sin never stays small or contained. What starts as a seemingly innocent choice grows into something that controls us rather than the other way around. That 'harmless' habit becomes a stronghold. That 'little' compromise becomes a pattern that pulls us further from God's heart.
The truth is, we cannot cherish sin and cherish Christ at the same time. Every time we choose something other than Christ, we're walking down a path that leads us away from the life He has for us. Sin promises freedom but delivers bondage. It takes us further than we want to go, keeps us longer than we want to stay, and costs more than we're willing to pay.
Today is a perfect day to examine what 'pet sins' you might be harboring and choose to surrender them completely to God.
Bible Verse
'So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.' - Galatians 5:16-17
Reflection Question
What 'pet sin' have you been keeping around that you need to surrender completely to God today?
Quote
We keep sin around like it's this little nice pet. We feed it every now and then. We just kind of keep it close by, and it's not really hurting anybody.
Prayer
Father, I confess that I've been trying to manage sin instead of surrendering it to You. Give me the strength to kill sin before it kills the life You want for me.
