Devotional

We live as if we have unlimited time, making plans that stretch years into the future. Yet Scripture reminds us of a sobering truth: our lives are like vapor. Think about the steam from your morning coffee - visible one moment, gone the next. That's the brevity of human existence. This isn't meant to discourage us but to awaken us to reality. Every sunrise is a gift, every breath a mercy from God. When we truly grasp how fleeting life is, it changes our priorities. We stop taking tomorrow for granted and start living with eternal perspective. The rich man in Jesus' parable made elaborate plans for many years, never considering that his time might end that very night. Understanding life's brevity isn't morbid - it's liberating, freeing us to focus on what will last forever.

Bible Verse

'Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.' - James 4:14 (King James Version (KJV))

Reflection Question

How would viewing your life as a 'vapor' change the way you spend your time today?

Quote

You are like a vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes.

Prayer

Father, help me remember that my days are numbered and precious. Teach me to make each moment count for Your kingdom.
