There Is No Other God | Monday

It is easy to shrink God down to a size that feels manageable. We want a God who fits into our plans, answers our prayers on our timeline, and makes life comfortable. But that is not who He is.

Isaiah 46 opens with a striking image. The false gods of Babylon had to be carried by the people who worshipped them. They were heavy, lifeless, and helpless. But the God of Israel? He carried His people. There is a world of difference between a God you carry and a God who carries you.

God declared Himself singular. One. Alone. Without rival. He is not one option among many. He is not a spiritual resource you consult when other options run out. He is the only God, and everything else is, as one preacher put it, nil and zero.

This is actually great news. If God is truly singular and all-powerful, then nothing in your life is outside His awareness or beyond His reach. Your hardest situation is not a surprise to Him. Your deepest fear is not too much for Him. He is not scrambling to figure out what to do next.

You can rest today, not because life is easy, but because the God who holds the universe together is the same God who holds you.

Father, forgive me for the times I have made You smaller than You are. Help me to see You clearly today as the one true God who holds all things together, including me. Amen.
